High-Power Fast Charging

Fast charging and the concept of “opportunity charging” play a vital role in modern high-intensity logistics, eliminating the need to swap batteries in forklifts and other vehicles between shifts.

Instead of waiting for a full battery discharge, operators take advantage of every short break, such as coffee breaks or shift changes, to connect the vehicle to the nearest fast charger.

Thanks to high currents and specifically designed charging profiles, these short charging bursts allow you to:

  • Extend autonomy.
    Brief charges of just a few minutes keep the State of Charge (SoC) within an optimal range.
  • Eliminate battery swapping.
    The battery is never removed from the vehicle, reducing downtime and risks associated with handling heavy loads.
  • Optimize shifts and reduce investment.
    A single battery set can cover the entire workday, maximizing fleet productivity.
  • Eliminate dedicated charging rooms.
    Freeing up valuable floor space and reducing infrastructural costs.

This strategy is particularly effective with lithium batteries, which accept very high charging rates without degrading. It can reach extreme speeds when using supercapacitors, yet it also finds many successful applications with traditional lead-acid batteries.

HPS systems incorporate over 20 years of GEBAT/BASSI expertise in fast charging and are designed to manage these applications in total safety, ensuring performance and longevity for every type of accumulator.

The Universal Charging Station

The HPS system features a multi-voltage and multi-current design: it can charge accumulators with a very wide voltage range, from zero up to 150 VDC for standard models, and 800 VDC upon request.

The current is regulated with extreme precision, from zero to the maximum rated value, safely managing advanced equalization and cell balancing profiles.

Operating as a universal charging station, the HPS system can manage fleets composed of vehicles with completely different characteristics.
The integrated automatic battery recognition functionality is supported by a vast range of communication protocols; every vehicle is always charged correctly, safely, and in a fully automated manner.

IGBT-Hybrid Technology

The HPS charger utilizes a high-frequency hybrid conversion technology based on IGBT modules (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors), designed to achieve the best possible performance in high-power applications.

The result is a combination of high efficiency, unity power factor, stable output current, and extraordinary reliability.
The robustness of the IGBT modules is paired with advanced digital control that manages the entire conversion system and incorporates full diagnostics.

The operation of every component is constantly monitored to report anomalies before they lead to failures and to assist operators in proper battery maintenance.

Now in its third generation, the HPS is designed for 24/7 continuous operation at full load. It is also available in an IP54 version for installation in harsh environments, such as cold storage or outdoor locations exposed to the elements.

Advanced Communication Interface

The HPS system can be equipped with a USB port for fast on-site programming, or a WiFi/Bluetooth interface for remote configuration, monitoring, and control.

Vehicle-side CANBUS communication enables integration with the leading BMS on the market. With over 40 pre-loaded and configurable CANBUS communication protocols, compatibility with diverse vehicles is guaranteed.
