JBM technology: continuous monitoring and wireless communication

The JBM module is designed to maximize reliability while minimizing operational and installation costs.

  • Active thermal protection.
    The temperature sensor prevents premature plate degradation. If critical thresholds are exceeded, the JBM instructs the charger to modulate or stop the charge, avoiding the risk of thermal runaway.
  • Sensor precision.
    Direct measurement at the battery (rather than at the charger terminals) ensures accurate data, eliminating errors caused by voltage drops across the power cables.
  • Zero auxiliary wiring.
    Unlike traditional systems that require pilot cables or special connectors, the JBM communicates wirelessly. This reduces installation time, eliminates mechanical cable breakage points, and slashes maintenance costs for the monitoring system.

Optimization for opportunity and fast charging

The integration of JBM is essential for multi-shift operations requiring fast charging or frequent “top-up” sessions:

  • Safe opportunity charging.
    Constant temperature monitoring allows the system to push charging currents to the maximum allowed by the battery, ensuring that short breaks are both effective and safe.
  • Dynamic adaptation.
    The charger instantly recognizes the battery (Battery ID) and adapts the charge curve based on the age, health, and temperature detected by the JBM.
  • Sulphation and stratification prevention.
    By communicating precise data to the charger, the system ensures that equalization and electrolyte mixing phases occur exactly when needed.

All data detected by the JBM is transmitted and logged within the GEBAT charging system:

  • Enhanced data log.
    The charger’s datalogger integrates real battery parameters (V, T, level, balance), allowing for detailed technical analysis and preventive diagnostics.
  • Fluid level management.
    The integrated level sensor provides early warnings for watering needs, preventing the battery from operating with exposed plates and suffering permanent damage. If the level is insufficient, the charger generates alarm signals to remind the operator to refill.
